Description by the Software Developer: "Hamachi will allow you to establish secure direct connections to PC's that are not accessible otherwise due to the restrictions in network setup. For example, if your home computer is connected to the Internet via Connection Sharing or Broadband Router, you will not generally be able to access it, say, from your office. By installing Hamachi on both computers and clicking a couple of buttons you can connect them instantly and securely. Now you can browse file shares, run remote desktop or even host a multiplayer game on one computer and join in from another. Just as if they were connected with a physical wire. Hamachi is simple, fast and secure. And it is also free. "

A desktop search application that provides full text search over your email, computer files, music, photos, chats and web pages that you've viewed. When you look at a web page, read an email, open or edit a file, or have an AIM chat, Google Desktop indexes that item and copies the item's content into its cache, so that you'll be able to find long-finished chats and older versions of files and web pages. Once you've installed Google Desktop, whenever your computer is idle for more than 30 seconds, it automatically starts indexing new items in real time as you see them. For example, it will find a web page immediately after you view it, or an email right after you read it. You can set Google Desktop's preferences to not index specific files or folders. You can also tell Desktop to remove specific files, folder or URLs from its cache. The capabilities of Google Desktop can be greatly expanded by a whole host of available plug-ins.

MMC tools (called snap-ins) can be used to administer networks, computers, services, applications and other system components. It does not perform administrative functions, but hosts a variety of Windows and non-Microsoft snap-ins that do."
"Why on Earth did they use the Windows flag? I mean, I shouldn't have to salute the Microsoft banner whenever I need to get into my Start Menu" (that was a word from the developer). Hook99 is a program that enables the user to customize the Start button. You can change or remove the text and replace the Windows flag on the Start button with any icon of your choice. Hook99 supports Windows icons, bitmaps, and can extract icons from executables and libraries. It can also make the background of desktop icons captions transparent. (For the changes to remain in effect after Windows restarts, you'll need to put the program's icon into the StartUp folder.)
